While setting a broken bone or relieving chest pain or removing a diseased gall bladder are all gratifying there is no equal to treating an injured brain. When a brain is injured a person doesn't lose function in one isolated part of his body, he loses his very substance as an individual, namely, his personality, talents, individuality, and capacity to enjoy life. In addition, a brain injury disrupts employment, relationships, and families. To treat an injured brain is to treat an entire person and repair a devastated life. The impact can be so profound as to change lives and careers of both the patient and treating physician. So it did for Dr. Harch in 1992 when he treated a cerebral palsy child. It was a turning point in his life that helped spawn the current explosion in off-label use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and allowed him the opportunity to duplicate the cerebral palsy child's neurological improvement hundreds of times in other children and adults in the subsequent eight years. It also reaffirmed the essence of the practice of medicine by relieving pain and suffering , improving the quality of life, and above all, offering hope to patients with intractable, disabling diseases. On this website Dr. Harch will share some of these experiences and demonstrate the use of low-pressure hyperbaric oxygen therapy in chronic neurological conditions.

This is the website of Paul G. Harch, M.D. It is dedicated to the generation of research funding for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), the dissemination of information on applications of HBOT, including neurological applications and the results of Dr. Harch's research and practice, announcements of meetings and new research findings in hyperbaric medicine, and discussions of controversial topics in hyperbaric medicine.
