This is a cry for help from our brave solders who survived some intense situations in the line of duty and made it home alive. Some were welcomed with cheers some weren’t. Some came home decorated and some came home with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Harch Hyperbarics honors all veterans with our deepest gratitude and for those who need it—treatment that will give them back their lives.
The following is an excerpt from Dr. Paul Harch’s book The Oxygen Revolution: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
For the most part, we (the medical profession) treat neurological diseases with one or more of a variety of drugs developed in the last decade or so. Until these drugs arrived on the scene, we had no treatment for most neurological disorders. Unfortunately, most of these medications treat only symptoms and the patients who take them are not permanently changed. In fact, what these individuals face is at best a lifetime of partial symptom relief.
What distinguishes HBOT is that hyperbaric oxygen is the only repair drug for neurological conditions. It stimulates DNA to produce growth and repair hormones and the protein receptors on cells that respond to these hormones. As you’ve seen from the discussion in other chapters, repetitive exposure to hyperbaric oxygen causes new blood vessels to grow, and it can metabolically energize the cells. As a result we get permanent changes in brain function as new blood supply grows, and the healing effects of oxygen revive the damaged cells that have been living in these areas of low blood flow (the ischemic penumbra).
